Buses on and off Hayling Island: Routes, Operators & Live Times
The 30/31 to Havant is the bus link off the island, with route 25 meeting the Hayling Ferry in Portsmouth. Here is what Havant Borough Council lists and where to check live times.
Havant Borough Council lists routes 30/31 as the Havant to Hayling Island bus service. Route 25 meets some Hayling Ferry crossings on the Portsmouth side. For live times use the BusTimes map the council recommends, and the operator's timetable for the service you need.
Buses to and from Hayling Island
Routes 30/31 are listed by Havant Borough Council's bus services page as "30/31 Havant, Hayling Island". That is the main bus link between the island and the mainland. The council says the borough's bus services are operated by First Bus and Stagecoach, and that Havant bus station, in Elm Lane, is owned by the council and operated by Stagecoach.
We were unable to open the operator's own route page for the 30/31 while researching this guide, so we are not quoting a frequency, first or last bus, or a fare. Check the live timetable before you travel (see below). We have not confirmed which Hayling Island stops the 30/31 calls at.
Route 25 runs between the Hayling Ferry at Eastney and Portsmouth. Havant Borough Council says route 25 meets some crossings of the ferry on the Portsmouth side, and that the nearest public transport connection on the Hayling side is at Staunton Avenue, about 1 mile east of the ferry terminal. A Stagecoach timetable leaflet we found (updated 6 April 2025, so check for a newer one) shows route 25 as "Hayling Ferry to Gunwharf Quays via Eastney, Southsea, Old Portsmouth" and calling at The Hard Interchange. The Hayling Ferry website has a "25 Bus" page and marks which ferry crossings link to the bus. See our ferry guide for sailing times.
Getting to Havant and onward
Havant bus station building is open Monday to Saturday 7am to 6:30pm and Sunday 9am to 3pm, according to the council, and bus services run from the station up to 24 hours a day. It has a waiting area, toilets, an information point and departure displays. Havant railway station is close by at the other end of Market Parade. See our train stations guide.
Other bus routes the council lists around Havant include 20 (Portsmouth, QA Hospital, Leigh Park, Havant), 23 (Havant, Farlington, Cosham, Portsmouth, Southsea) and 700 (Portsmouth, Havant, Emsworth, Chichester). These are mainland services you can change to at Havant.
National Express and Megabus coaches leave from The Hard Interchange in Portsmouth, according to the council, not from Hayling Island.
Live times, timetables and fares
- Live bus times: the council points to the BusTimes map, where you can select a stop for real-time information and track vehicles.
- Timetables and tickets: use the operator's website or app for the service you want, and the Havant council page for the current list of routes.

- School transport: see Hampshire County Council's school transport pages.
Routes, timings and fares change, so treat any printed timetable as a guide and check the live source on the day.
