Mengham

The main village centre for South Hayling — shops, restaurants, the post office, and the Mengham Rythe tidal creek.

Mengham is the main village centre of South Hayling and serves as the hub for day-to-day shopping and services on the island. It is not quite a conventional high street — the centre is spread across a short stretch of Mengham Road — but it contains the island's main supermarkets, banks, post office, independent shops, and restaurants.

Mengham Rythe, the tidal creek running along the south-western edge of the village, is popular with small boat users at high tide. The Maypole pub on West Lane is a local institution, and several well-regarded cafes and restaurants operate in and around Mengham Road.

Mengham Junior School is the main primary school serving South Hayling. The village has a strong community feel year-round, with a noticeably different pace to the busy summer season when the population swells considerably with holidaymakers and second-home owners.
